Kimberley Money Management Service workers are financial educators. They can give you information, though not financial advice.
In a one on one appointment, MM Workers can help you work on a budget that shows your current situation, and discuss your spending habits with you, with a view for increasing your savings. Simple changes can mean the difference between saving or not, or even, making ends meet each fortnight, or not.
In addition to supporting you to build your financial resilience, MM Workers can also advocate on your behalf, or provide solid referrals to get you supported by the service you need.
MM Workers also work in group settings and offer a variety of workshops. Group workshops are conducted at Broome CIRCLE and in outreach communities, and we can even negotiate with you to go to your group to deliver a workshop there.
The workshop topics we offer include;
- Making the Money Last until Payday
- Planning for the future
- How can Banks Help?
- Internet and Phone Banking
- Credit can be a Hazard
- Money Loans, Sharks and Traps!
- A Roof Overhead…Home Ownership
- A Roof Overhead…Tenancy
- Managing Paperwork
- Better Smarter Healthier Shopping
Income Management and Voluntary Income Management (VIM)
In addition to the above services a main role of Money Management Workers is to provide assistance and support to people on Income Management (Basic’s Card). In the Broome area, the most common form of Income Management is ‘Voluntary’ and is a great way to manage your fortnightly funds and also knowing your essential items will be covered. VIM also has financial incentives, and can be a great way to create savings for big items you may need.
If you would like more information about the positive ways Income Management may support you- call in at our Drop-In service day for a no obligation chat! Voluntary Income Management is your choice for as long as you want to be a participant.
Approved Money Management Course (AMMC)
A very popular short course designed to support and educate those specifically on Income Management. We currently offer the course as 3 x 2hr workshops or as a full day 6hr workshop. When you have completed the course, you will receive an AMMC Certificate of completion, which can then be presented to Centrelink for the financial incentive- Matched Savings Plan.
You do not need to be on Income Management to do this course with Broome CIRCLE, as we encourage everyone to participate and learn from the education and interaction.
This is also a course the Financial Counsellor may suggest you undertake.
