Meet the Broome CIRCLE Team
 

Sandy Joffe | Executive Officer

Sandy Joffe recently returned to Australia after three years in Kenya where she worked as a consultant. Among other roles, she undertook evaluations for Australian Red Cross and managed  the magnificent Maasai Cricket Warriors. In a voluntary role, Sandy founded the Mt Kenya Schools Program which took a holistic approach to supporting three state primary schools, including ensuring that every child received a cup of porridge every day, building a school library and planting trees.

Previously, in the role of EO at Port Phillip Community Group, Sandy sought to build an organisation that  would foster inclusion in that gentrifying community and ensure that even the most marginalized residents had a voice. Sandy has a M.Soc. Sci (Social Policy).

Jo Craven | Operations and Finance Manager

Jo first came to Broome in 1998 and immediately fell in love with Broome and it’s beautiful surroundings. After four years of enjoying the Broome lifestyle Jo left to travel overseas, she did this for a further four years before Broome called her back.  Jo is responsible for managing the finance and operational requirements of Broome CIRCLE.  She has worked in the Finance Sector for the past 9 years in various roles and has a history of working for Not-for-profit Organisations. Jo holds a Cert IV in Financial Services & Bachelor App Science – Fisheries Management.  She enjoys working in an environment that “gives back” to the community.

 

Rikki Lovell | Administration Officer

Since 2006 Rikki has been working for not-for-profit Aboriginal Art Centres  in remote parts of the Northern Territory.
In late 2015 she moved to Broome and started with Broome CIRCLE at the beginning of 2016.

 Financial Management Program Team 
 

 Maggie Mildenhall | Financial Well being Hub Coordinator

Maggie joined Broome CIRCLE in 2016, bringing with her a Bachelor of Development Studies and five years of experience working in Community Development. Most recently Maggie worked in the homelessness and rooming house sector in Melbourne where she worked alongside community members on such projects as community gardens, street art, creative writing and community social meals. One of her favourite projects was facilitating an inclusive open mic night in St Kilda where marginalised community members have an opportunity to perform for an appreciative audience.

Maggie has combined a love of travel and adventure with her passion for social justice by volunteering with community organisations in Tanzania and Kenya, facilitating education workshops in Cambodia with Teacher’s Across Borders and working with the Arabunna Aboriginal Community in Marree.

Sue Urquhart |   Financial Counsellor

Sue moved to Broome in 1997 whist travelling around Australia. During that time she has worked in Health, Education and Community Services. Sue’s interests include cooking, tea tasting, gardening, travelling and reading and her passion is animal welfare and conservation. Sue has a diploma in Financial Counselling and enjoys her role as a financial counsellor, assisting people experiencing financial difficulties and improving peoples lives. Sue finds this role very rewarding as she sees peoples lives changing for the better.

Tom Chapman | Outreach Financial Counsellor

Tom comes to Broome CIRCLE with a diverse background in professional services, teaching and volunteering, His passion to experience and know different people of the world has given him the opportunity to apply his knowledge to a range of different vocations in a range of different locations, and the confidence to adapt to most any situation. The constants for Tom are a passion for the West Coast Eagles and a dislike of air conditioning. His firm belief in empowering people through education and sharing underpin most that he does, and he is thankful for the opportunity with Broome CIRCLE to share his knowledge and help people.

 

Mrs Kylie Brockenshire | Kimberley Money Management Service – Broome Project Worker-Maternity Leave

Kylie moved to Broome in Easter 2001, whilst travelling around Australia. Her love of the ocean and the natural environment saw Kylie maintaining work as a tour guide throughout the West Australian coast, and Kimberley region. From here she showcased Broome’s production of world class pearls as a tour guide at a local pearl farm, before completing aquaculture studies. Kylie has worked as a Money Management Project Worker since January 2011; she loves the challenge of the job and has completed a Cert III in community services along with other training to strengthen her industry knowledge.

Maria Mann | Financial Counsellor

Maria has lived in Broome and the Kimberley almost continuously since the 1980s. She has met some extraordinary people, travelled to far-flung places and tried her hand at many occupations including environmental advocacy, community development and social justice, Aboriginal rights activism, counselling, journalism, photography and tertiary education. Her role as financial counsellor is both challenging and rewarding.

Sam Bowra | Community Development Coordinator

Sam has worked her way though Broome CIRCLE since 2008. She started working in the creche and did a stint in the BVRS before landing the role of Community Development Coordinator. Sam has a CERT IV in Community Services and a Cert III in Children’s Services. The Community Development Coordinator is responsible for Program Coordination, Events, Publications, and Media.

 

Cherry Lawton | Broome Volunteer Resource Service Coordinator

“Cherry is a Broome local of 28 years. She has studied a Bachelor of Arts in Tourism & Events Management, with a second major in Community Development through Murdoch University. Cherry undertook a student placement within Broome CIRCLE and has since continued her role within the Volunteer Resource Service.  Cherry enjoys working with volunteers and volunteer agencies as she recognizes the valuable contribution that volunteering has on the Broome community.”

 
Creche Team

Andy Stewart | Creche Coordinator

 After traveling overseas and then through Australia, Andy moved to Broome in 2000. Andy began work in the creche in 2000 for a short time then transitioned to long day care services in Broome. Andy was the Coordinator of Lotteries House creche in 2005 and had her first son Jye. After spending 2 years quality time with Jye, Andy returned to work as an Inclusion Support Facilitator, supporting Children’s Services throughout the Kimberleys. Andy again took leave when her second son, Levi was born in 2008 and returned to Broome CIRCLE Creche in 2011 where she became Creche Coordinator. Andy has a passion for  children’s advocacy and a strong commitment to early eduction and care of young children. She strives to provide a nurturing, safe, natural environment within the creche that will support and enhance positive leaning outcomes for all children. Andy has a Diploma in Children’s Services, Early Education & Care.

Amber Bekkers | Creche Worker

Amber has lived in Broome since 2005.  She began her career in Children’s Services at Broome CIRCLE Inc Creche whilst also working at BOSCCA. Amber holds a CertIII in Children’s Services and  is currently studying her Diploma in Children’s services, Early Education and Care. Amber is one of our longest serving staff members and is very committed to the children who attend our Creche. Amber has a son Ethan who goes to school at Roebuck Primary. Amber has a Diploma in Children’s Services, Early Education & Care.

Shelley Jordans | Yoga for Adults & Kids

Shelley has been working at Broome CIRCLE since early 2008. She started working in the Creche and then moved onto teaching Hatha Yoga soon after. Shelley has nearly completed her FinY Teacher Training Course and also has qualifications in Bowen Therapy and Remedial Massage. Shelley first moved to  Broome in 1998. She has 2 beautiful girls and loves all things spiritual
